May 11 - President George Bush remains under pressure as support from his conservative base is slipping.

Six months before voters decide the balance of power in Congress, polls suggest an increasingly gloomy and anxious electorate has become disenchanted with President Bush and grown more pessimistic about the Iraq war, gas prices and the country's future.
