Hamas Unlikely to Join Latest Peace Plan

All Things Considered, May 29, 2006 · Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas is making another effort to resolve the impasse over the refusal by Hamas officials to renounce violence and recognize Israel's right to exist. Abbas wants Hamas to join a peace plan that implicitly accepts Israel's existence. But Hamas seems unlikely to comply, and even if it did, there is little prospect for a revival of peace talks with Israel.
