Heroes of the Titanic

by Jean Hooper Page

The master of millions and pauper's son
At last stood side by side,
But the broadcloth coat and the corduroy
Held the hearts of men that died.

The master of millions, proud lord of the earth,
And the lowly son of the sod,
Are after all but brothers of flesh,
In the eyes of a wonderful God.

Both came from the mystic land beyond,
Both found their graves in the sea.
So the master of millions and pauper's son
Are one in eternity.

The Titanic sank in 1912 about 94 years ago, with it about fifteen hundred people lost their lives. As for the wealthy that died the majority was the third class passengers. Even though their was hot debate over the fact that these passengers where held below deck by pad locked doors is beyond the issue now after this much time. What made it unacceptable, that even in this time period their was a prejudice class difference which was the main factor for these people losing their lives. Many where Irish decent among other nationalities, like today wishing to come to the land of dreams known as America.

Even upon their arrival after facing such a great ordeal for the few that did survive they still had to face like other’s before them the racial injustice that seemed to face anyone who has immigrated to America. The ones in the past that seem to stand out most in mind are the Irish. Like in New York City, they faced deprived conditions within tenement surroundings.

Now we have the immigrant situation today, why they may have had some improved conditions upon arriving here; they still have one major problem racism.

I do have to admit one thing that did come out of the Titanic disaster was better Maritime laws.
