There has been a snag in talks between Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas. On Saturday afternoon, Abbas has abruptly called off talks planned for later in the day in Gaza with the head of the Hamas-led government, Ismail Haniyeh.

Fatah officials say Abbas called off the meeting after Hamas officials backtracked from previous agreements. A Hamas spokesman in the
West Bank, Adnan Asfur, said the sides have yet to agree on negotiations with Israel and who will conduct them.

Meanwhile, Israel conducted its first raid in the Gaza Strip since its pullout last year. Troops moved into southern Gaza Strip under cover of darkness early Saturday and rounded up two Palestinians.
