Ayman Al-Zawahiri, al-Qaeda’s second in command, appeared in a new video Friday where he spoke of Palestinian and Egyptian politics, the situation in Sudan, and Libya’s removal from the state sponsors of terrorism list. He also praised the now dead Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. Al-Zawahiri called on Muslims to reject the referendum proposed by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on establishing a Palestinian state alongside Israel. "I also call on them to refuse any referendum on Palestine, because Palestine isn’t for bargaining and bidding," he said.
Al-Zawahiri also launched an attack on the Sudanese government because it has approved the entry of international forces in Darfur. “This is why I call on every Muslim and everyone in the Sudan… to stand in the face of the Zionist/Crusader plot to occupy the lands on Islam.”
Zawahiri had also had scathing words for Libya calling Qaddafi’s role in the removal of Libya from the US list of state sponsors of terrorism, treason. “As for Libya… a certificate of the distinction in treason to Qaddafi from the Caesar of Washington for his devotion to helping the Crusade against the Jihad.” Zawahiri said.
Towards the end of the statement, Zawahiri offered praise and well wishes to the now dead leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. “May Allah grant long life to the patient champion of Islam, the Mujahid Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.” he said.
Note:
With the lapses in the film do I smell a little uncreative editing?
