The Game is Afoot

by Housewife4Palestine

I have always been rather fond of the classics as well as murder mysteries by such notable writer’s as Agatha Christie and Sir Author Conan Doyle; while their work gives an element of mystery and the game is always afoot.

My most favorite character’s has always been Sherlock Holmes,
Miss Jane Marple and the unforgettable Hercule Poirot.

Out of such stories as these, you gain a better understanding not only of a different time or world; but a reminder that each one of these character had a type of decorum all their own. That you knew they were ladies and gentlemen above reproach and myself I always found these qualities admirable specially pitted against the never ending plots of what could be at time's some of the most heinous villains to walk before our eyes.

The way they dressed as well, told one they was of modest means as well as had a kind of inner beauty that seems to be getting harder to find in our current lax of moral depravity.

As for these writer’s who lived, to give us a world beyond our own, I hold in great respect.

What makes me wonder with a very broad smile that even today, these character’s are just as famous as the day they were put on paper, with the numerous books still in print and the countless never ending movies that now and again grace our television set’s.

From reading these timeless novels, I was opened into a world of many sciences such as forensic science and criminal profiling, long before it became a novelty in numerous spin off’s of the Television show, “CSI.”

“It is the brain, the little gray cells on which one must rely. One must seek the truth within--not without.”-
Hercule Poirot

Here is how Arthur Hastings first described Poirot in The Mysterious Affair at Styles: "He was hardly more than five feet four inches but carried himself with great dignity. His head was exactly the shape of an egg, and he always perched it a little on one side. His moustache was very stiff and military. The neatness of his attire was almost incredible; I believe a speck of dust would have caused him more pain than a bullet wound."

“There is a great deal of wickness in village life.”-Miss Marple

Miss Marple is a tall, thin woman with a pink, wrinkled face, pale blue eyes and snowy white hair which she wears piled upon her head in an old-fashioned manner. Her innocuous appearance, meandering conversation and ever-present knitting needles often mislead people into underestimating her as simply a "dithering old maid." Those who really know her recognize that she is a sharp observer of human nature with "an uncanny knack of being always right."

Sherlock Holmes Appearance: ¤ Tall, thin; narrow face, large forehead, black hair, brows dark & heavy ¤ Nose thin, hawk-like; lips thin, firm; voice quick, high, strident ¤ Eyes gray, sharp, piercing, taking on "far-away introspective look."
