Shattered Hearts

She shivers
Looks nervous
In her t-shirt
As tears of hurt
Desert her eyes
And wash with the Blood that covers
Her clothesAnd drips down
Her nose

She froze
Because she knows
Under that pile of rubble
Lays her father who’s gotta
Find a new home
That’s not with her
And as her emotions explode
Shattering her meek heart
That’ll never be whole
She loses control

But all she can do is cry
And wonder why
Skies fill with artillery shells
And liberty bells
Stamped with US symbols
And US signals and aid
Took her father away

Finally she steps through the doorway
Brushing the tears from her face
Only to see more blood
And feel more cuts
From the destruction that just was

Her body shivers
Hands quiver
Mind delivers a dose reality
She falls to the ground
Recreating the fatality she just witnessed

He can’t leave today
He needs to stay
To show her
Where to go
And how to be
To cope with this war torn society
But he leaves

This is not military
This is terrorism
Reconnaissance missions
Are not meant for civilians
Nine story apartment buildings
Indiscriminate killings
That leave her living with death

And so she chokes on her breath
Her last regrets
That’ll never be
Met with restitution
This is her evolution
From creation to conclusion
The strong shall survive
But her meek heart
Will not inherit the land
Because it
Lay buried With her father
In Lebanon
