Six imams kicked off a US flight file civil rights lawsuit

March 16, 2007

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Six imams handcuffed and removed from a US Airways flight at a Minnesota airport over "suspicious activity" in November have sued the airline, alleging discrimination against Muslims.

The lawsuit was launched Tuesday against the airport authority, US Airways, the crew and several passengers, said the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a US Islamic civil liberties group backing the men.

The six imams, aged 26 to 55, several of whom are from Arizona, boarded the jet at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport on November 20 after attending a North American imams conference in midwestern Minneapolis.

They were questioned for five hours by authorities before being released, following their removal from the airplane. Afterwards, US Airways refused to allow them to take another flight home.
According to the company, airport authorities had alerted them to "suspicious activity," saying the men prayed loudly and made anti-American statements at a departure gate before boarding the airplane.

In November, American media said the imams paid cash for their fares, or did not purchase return tickets, and chanted "Allah" as they were escorted from the flight.

In a statement, the imams denied the reports and all accusations, saying they were guilty only of performing "normal evening prayers."

One of them is blind. Another holds a US Airways loyalty card and had secured a seat in first class, CAIR said in a statement.

Venerated in their communities, these men "were removed from the US Airways flight 'for no reason' and were 'humiliated' by being handcuffed and taken off the plane in the view of other passengers," CAIR said.

These Imams were faking and goofing on the passengers, and were probably trying to get tossed off the plane just so they could play the victim card and go to court and make a scene. Any judge who allows this is a bad judge.

uspace,

It is kind of interesting how people like you like to insult people you do not have any understanding of, especially in the verbal attack towards religious leaders that may not be apart of your religion. I contend, that you apparently know little about Imams or the religion of Islam.

Hey, cool, you should try writing Haiku, Senyru, and Tanka, you're a natural I think.

I am not an Islamophobic, not if that means being against all Muslims. I know dozens of Muslims and they are all very nice. I know most Muslims are peaceful and moderate and of course not terrorists who want to convert, subjugate or kill me, my family, my friends and the rest of humanity.

I also know that most terrorists these days are Muslim

I am however an Islamofascistphobic, or an Islamoterrorphobic, or terroristphobic, or murdererphobic.

If the words in any 'Holy Book' advocate killing or enslaving me and my kind, I and any of my kind have a God given right, actually a duty probably, to disagree loudly with that book.

People who believe in their religion have to, and should want to defend their religion with facts and actions that support its ideas.

When moderate Muslims let Fascists riot, burn, bomb and murder to prove that they are practicing a peaceful religion, it shows just the opposite. The moderate and secular Muslims must stop the Islamoterrorists or everybody will suffer, especially the good Muslims. I understand that it is extremely dangerous, extremists threaten moderates all the time.

May peace be with you.

USpace,

I am going to answer very short and to the point, for one you are greatly mistaken in your assumption that most terrorist are Muslim, to the contrary they come from every walk of life and from every religion.

Muslims are not invading countries, creating occupations and murdering millions of people!

Finally, you are throwing words around wildly without foundation other then that of a pure propagandist believer, please open your window and see what is really going on.
