Flooding in Central Texas

27 June 2007

The heavy rain that caused massive flooding in the Hill Country on Wednesday morning might be just the beginning. Expect rains through next week, with intense showers possible starting this evening, according to the National Weather Service. Above: Flooding at Graveyard Point. Even by Texas-sized standards, this is a lot of water: It now looks like parts of central Texas could get more than 2 feet of rainfall before week's end, as major flooding reaches historic proportions in some areas.

The Austin American-Statesman is providing continuous coverage of events, including a breaking news blog, reader photos and information about the multitude of water rescues.

The central Texas flooding is part of a larger swath of heavy rain that is stretching up into Oklahoma. There's also coverage in the Dallas Morning News, the Houston Chronicle and NewsOK.com, a combined site for Oklahoma City's newspaper and one of its television stations. You can see video at Austin television stations KTBC and News 8 Austin, among other sites.
