Cairo – Ma'an – Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit on Monday met with Palestinian caretaker Prime Minister Salam Fayyad in Cairo.
The two leaders discussed the latest developments in the Palestinian arena and agreed to enable the situation in the Gaza Strip to return to the pre-Hamas-takeover conditions.
Hamas seized control over the Gaza Strip following internecine fighting in June of this year.
Fayyad elucidated the new government's political platform and its efforts to establish law and order in the West Bank.
Aboul Gheit asserted Egyptian support for "Palestinian legitimacy", represented in President Abbas. He also said that Egypt will support the government in rebuilding the Palestinian Authority establishments.
