Last Guantanamo Bahraini 'On His Way Home'
MANAMA: Bahrain's last remaining detainee in Guantanamo Bay, Isa Al Murbati, is to be freed and will arrive home today or tomorrow, it was revealed last night. MP Dr Jassim Hussain told the GDN senior government officials yesterday contacted Mr Al Murbati's family to confirm the news.
"Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa has called the family with the news," said Dr Hussain.
The 41-year-old captive, who has been held without charge or trial for more than five years, is married and has five children, aged from seven to 18.
Mr Al Murbati's legal team head Joshua Colangelo-Bryan yesterday said he was optimistic his client was about to be released.
Senior officials close to the case also confirmed that Mr Al Murbati was about to be released.
