U.S. Supporting Terrorism?

Introduction

Fatah is one of the worse terrorist organizations in the world today and while President George W. Bush says he is fighting terrorism in front of the media camera’s and then turns around and supports the very terrorist organization that is plaguing the world today. With some of the worse terrorist crimes, that has been occurring for about the last 41 years.

Yesterday in Yemen for example, Fatah committed a terrorist act towards a U.S. Embassy, which not only a guard was killed, but three schoolchildren, now where is the logic?

Is Bush trying to restart a war that should never have happened to begin with?

US provides $150 million in budget assistance to the Palestinian Authority

Bethlehem
Ma'an – In a ceremony at the Office of Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, the United States provided $150 million in budget support for the Palestinian Authority (PA) on Wednesday.

The contribution followed on a pledge made by US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice at the Palestinian Donors Conference in Paris last December. US officials also hope the contribution will help address the shortfall in Fayyad's plan for economic development in Palestine.

The Cash Transfer Agreement, was signed by Fayyad, US Consul General Jake Walles and US Agency for International Development (USAID) Acting Mission Director R. David Harden is subject to what the US Consulate calls "strict auditing and accountability mechanisms."

After the signing, Prime Minister Fayyad said, “The U.S. contribution is a strong signal of support from the United States for this government’s efforts to build a secure, independent Palestinian state that will live in peace and security with its neighbors. We appreciate the efforts of the Bush Administration and the many Members of Congress that made this assistance possible. It will only further deepen the bond between the Palestinian and American people who share a common desire for peace in this troubled part of the world.”

Consul General Walles commented that, “The U.S. government is pleased to be able to support the Prime Minister and his government’s efforts to ensure a future of economic and political security for the Palestinian people.” USAID Acting Director Harden added that “USAID is pleased to continue its commitment to helping the Palestinian people.”

The US and other Western donor states cut off financial assistance to the PA after the Palestinian parliamentary elections of 2006, in which the Hamas movement won a majority in the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC). Following Hamas' takeover of the Gaza Strip in June 2007, and the dissolution of a Hamas-Fatah unity government, the US reinstated aid to the PA under Fayyad, a US-educated economist.

Receiving more than $3 billion in aid every year, Israel is the largest recipient of US foreign assistance, most of it military aid.
