22 June 2008

Tehran-Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili on Sunday highlighted national consensus over civilian nuclear program.

He made the remarks while talking to reporters after his meeting with Majlis deputies in a close session.

The session aiming to review the latest developments over national nuclear program was also attended by the head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization Reza Aqazadeh.

Majlis, as the "house of nation" has always supported the country's peaceful nuclear activities, he said.

After resolving the outstanding issues with the International Atomic Energy Agency, the Islamic Republic of Iran provided the other side with a package of proposal, he said adding that the package provided a good opportunity for cooperation between Tehran and the nuclear powers.

Iran's package of proposal was warmly welcomed by several governments, Jalili said, adding they believe that the package contains numerous positive points.

On recent visit to Tehran of the European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana, Jalili said, "Mr Solana greeted the package and said the EU states were agreed with the general views of the package."

As to a package of incentives presented by the Group 5+1 to Iran, Jalili said, "Tehran will consider the package and will announce its views soon."

Tehran believes that the EU proposals along with those suggested by the Islamic Republic can be good base for resumption of negotiations, Jalili said.
