May 15 - Palestinians mark the 58th anniversary of al-Nakba, or the great catastrophe.

Palestinians gathered in the streets of the West Bank and Gaza to mark the annual day of mourning over Israel's establishment.

The economic isolation of the Hamas-led government has led to concerns over a new Nakba, or 'catastrophe'.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas urged Israel to release millions of dollars of withheld funds and warned the Jewish state against a unilateral approach to peacemaking.

Helen Long reports.
