Israelis to protest against Israeli actions in Lebanon

July 16, 2006

Bethlehem-Ma'an-Leftist and democratic factions in Israel will demonstrate against the current Israeli attacks on Lebanon which are harming civilians and civilian installations. They will demand a joint ceasefire as well as negotiations to secure the release of the captured Israeli soldiers in exchange for the release of Palestinian and Arab prisoners.

This demonstration will be held under the slogan, "Stop targeting cars and start negotiations." The demonstration will begin at 7 pm on Sunday in Rabin Square and proceed through many of the main streets in Tel Aviv.

In a press statement, the Knesset member for the Democratic Front for Peace and Equality, Dov Hanin, said, "Our duty in these harsh days is to prevent the war camp from diverting our pain and fear into the language of violence and force. This time too, as we did 24 years ago, we need to promote action against the war and block the army's return to Lebanon. We need to stop the region from a disaster which is on the horizon."
