Israel said it mistakenly bombed a building near a Hezbollah rocket-launching site in Qana, Lebanon, on Sunday where at least 54 people died, including 19 children. The Red Cross said the Qana air strikes hit a residential building for refugees, which Israel said was near Hezbollah rocket launching sites. More than 54 bodies were pulled from the building’s remains.

In an emergency session of the U.N. Security Council on Sunday, Secretary-General Kofi Annan called for an end to the conflict. "We must condemn this action in the strongest possible terms," said Annan. "I am deeply dismayed that my earlier calls for immediate cessation of hostilities were not heeded, with the result that innocent life continues to be taken and innocent civilians continue to suffer. I repeat that call once again."
