Hamas: Saddam execution violates international norms

December 31, 2006

Gaza - The Hamas Movement on Saturday described the execution of former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein as “political execution” imposed by the American administration through the Iraqi government in violation of international norms and rules.

Hamas charged that the timing of the execution was well-planned to target dignity of Arabs and Muslims. “The issues here is not defending Saddam Hussein but rather defending the Arab dignity and human feelings,” it added.

“The assassination crime that took place at dawn today on the first day of Eidul Adha was in total disrespect of all Arab and Islamic values,” Hamas charged.

If Saddam had committed any crime then his people should have brought him to trial and not the American occupiers who should rather be the ones to stand trial for their crimes in Iraq, Palestine and Afghanistan and other world areas, the statement underlined.

For his part, Dr. Ismail Redwan, the Hamas spokesman in the Gaza Strip, charged that the execution of Saddam was deliberate on the part of the American administration to create a state of frustration and to psychologically pressure the Arab and Muslim masses.

Redwan wondered when the American administration would stand trial for its crimes in Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine, and charged that American hands were stained with blood of those peoples.

He said that the American administration should also stand trial for its vicious violations of prisoners’ rights in Guantanamo and in Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.

SADDAM'S HANGING A SMOKESCREEN FOR U.S. CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY

'The pictures of a dangling Saddam may please a sadistic and vengeful Bush ~ but it will most certainly be a vivid reminder to most Americans and the rest of the world of our deepening moral disgrace. This certainly falls in line with a recent International poll that named George W Bush as the greatest menace to mankind and International peace.'
