Israeli interrogators threaten detained mother with kidnapping her children

30 July 2007

RAMALLAH, (
PIC)-- Israeli interrogators at the Maskobeh detention center have threatened a detained mother with kidnapping her children in a bid to psychologically pressure her during interrogation rounds.

Lawyer of the captive Nada Jayusi, 42, quoted her as affirming the threat, which his Nafha society, catering for affairs of prisoners and human rights, strongly condemned in its capacity as in flagrant violation of international norms and laws.

The Israeli government's judicial advisor had issued orders banning lies and threats to detainees during interrogation rounds only a week ago.

Jayusi, a mother of nine children and chairperson of Huda charitable society for women, has been held in the Maskobeh detention center for almost a month under very bad incarceration conditions making her lose almost half her weight.

The Nafha society appealed to human rights organizations to pressure the Israeli occupation authority into halting inhuman practices against prisoners in general and female captives in particular.
