Thousands of Israeli settlers ready to evacuate the West Bank, new report reveals

Bethlehem
Ma'an – A report from the Israeli peace association, Gush Shalom revealed on Tuesday that thousands of Israeli settlers are ready to evacuate their settlements in the West Bank as soon as financial reimbursement is available from the Israeli government.

The report, published on the Independent Israeli news website Inyan Merkazi, adds that many of the Israeli settlers who live close to the separation wall would move immediately inside the Green Line (inside Israel) if the Israeli government agrees to compensate them financially. The report indicates that Israeli premier Ehud Olmert's plan to evacuate the settlements is echoed amongst Israeli settlers.

The report also highlights that 80,000 Israeli settlers, who live close to the eight metre concrete wall, are ready to leave the West Bank immediately because they are afraid, feel separated from the rest of Israel and feel that their future is insecure.

The Jewish Israeli institution, "One Home" which is run by Israeli settlers, is considering the future of settler families. It is leading a growing trend demanding reimbursement so settlers can evacuate immediately.

The movement mailed 5,000 surveys to settler families in the West Bank. Of these 2,000 said that they were pro evacuating the settlements and this is what has led the Israeli peace bloc to believe that thousands more are ready to evacuate.

Rightwing extremists have denied the report completely. They said that such calls have been rising for two years, yet facts on the ground reflect the opposite. But several settlers from the West Bank have started buying lands and apartments in Galilee in northern Israel.
