What is not mentioned in the caption is the actual reason Koichiro Matsuura visited Mahmoud Abbas and that the picture above was just a photo op supplied by Abbas’s office.

Director General Matsuura was sent to Palestine at the stern request of U.S. President George W. Bush to visit Abbas for a photo op, because I had commented on the state of Bush’s health and he became apparently, extremely agitated over this. Which in this particular situation just reaffirms my observation of Bush’s increasing erratic behavior, due to the state of his health.

My initial concern in commenting on the state of Bush’s health was not just the way he was conducting himself within his position; but the growing concern over the welfare of the global community, as well as the American people.

Nevertheless, after Director General Matsuura’s forced visit with Abbas, he did have the opportunity it was reported, to be received with gracious Palestinian hospitality of the Palestinian people, before his return home; which personally, I was most happy that it was not a completely wasted trip and do hope he has the opportunity in the future to receive our hospitality again.
