IOF troops besiege Rafah crossing
Rafah - IOF troops on Wednesday sealed off the Rafah crossing the only gateway for inhabitants of the Gaza Strip with the outside world in what appeared to be an attempt to block the return of PA interior minister Sa'eed Siyam from an Arab-Islamic tour.
PA security sources said that large IOF reinforcements were sent to the vicinity of the Rafah terminal on the border strip between Egypt and Gaza.
Tens of IOF tanks besieged the terminal from its eastern flank while dozens others cut the main road leading to it from various Strip areas.
Scores of PA security men are held up inside the terminal, which has been closed before Palestinian travelers for almost four months during which it only opened for short intervals.
The step came few days after Israeli transportation minister Shaul Mofaz had said that Israel should ban the re-entry of Siyam into Gaza.
Israel repeatedly threatened to invade the Strip at the pretext that Palestinians were smuggling weapons into it via that terminal.
Meanwhile, hundreds of Palestinians took to the streets of Gaza city on Tuesday on the occasion of the international day for the eradication of poverty.
The marchers asked the international community to lift the oppressive economic blockade imposed on the Palestinian people.
