A Rainy Day in the French Quarter
A rainy day in Pirate's Alley, the white building to the left is St. Louis Cathedral which was originally built in 1729, but after two fires; the building one see’s today, was rebuilt in 1794 within the French Quarter. While I do not condone piracy even with most people‘s idea of the romanticism, the famous French pirate Jean Lafitte, called New Orleans home for a time with warehouses and a blacksmith shop; to go so far as to defend Louisiana in 1812.
The last time I was in Pirate’s Alley because it is an interesting little though fare, the cobblestones where in much needed repair after Hurricane Katrina; one had to be careful to keep from falling, which after that time, I have never returned.
St. Louis Cathedral unto Jackson Square (July 2001), between the Cathedral and the other building is the opposite end of the Pirates Alley, from the above picture.Labels: History, Human Interest, Katrina New Orleans, United States
