Archbishop Fuad Twal waves during a procession to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, part of his inauguration ceremony as the new Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem on 22 June 2008 in Jerusalem's Old City.
Twal was an assistant to the former patriarch Michel Sabbah, who announced he was retiring at the age of 75 and named his successor in a pastoral letter in March.
Twal was born into a Bedouin Christian tribe on 23 October 1949, at Madaba in Jordan.
