Laura Bush in New Orleans
14 August 2008
A good portion of New Orleanians still need the basic necessities to live, from day to day and what does Laura Bush do, come and visit a New Orleans high school this morning to discuss the National Endowment for the Humanities’ Picturing America project.
While apparently, Bush’s idea is give 40 reproductions of American art to be given to schools and public libraries to help educators teach American history and culture through art.
What is more needed at this time is better affordable housing, further rebuilding of damaged homes, aid to the poor and homeless, health care; which in too many cases are being neglected and the list rolls like tissue paper down the road to be forgotten in the distance, by the Bush Administration.
While education is important, sometimes it gets lost on a cold homeless sidewalk, with an empty stomach and poor health.
Furthermore, it is a wonder how Laura Bush would feel as some of the New Orleanians have to do, is live in very poor housing with field cockroaches which are very large, like pack horses and large barn rats or the health problems due to Katrina mold? Tend to think, she wouldn’t last very long, but this is a common occurrence for many in New Orleans and in some cases worse. Less we forget, this was not on her agenda, today.
