Majlis speaker returns home from IPU meeting
Heading a high-ranking delegation, Larijani left Tehran from Geneva, Switzerland, on Sunday where he attended the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) meeting.
In addition to delivering a speech at the IPU meeting, the speaker met with a number of his counterparts from various countries on the sidelines of the meeting.
Speakers and representatives from over 140 countries participated in the event held from October 13-16.
Larijani then proceeded to Finland from Geneva on a two-day visit.
He reviewed bilateral cooperation as well as the latest regional and international developments with several senior Finnish officials.
Talking to reporters upon arrival at the airport, he said that the US financial crisis and its impacts on the world economy were discussed in the Geneva meeting.
"The IPU discussed joining the Palestinian parliament and membership of Palestine was approved by the majority of the member states."
Asked about his meetings with counterparts, Larijani said Iran's peaceful nuclear program, as well as the regional developments including the critical situation in both Iraq and Afghanistan were on the agenda of his talks.
On his visit to Finland, the speaker said that he called for further expansion of cooperation during his meetings with Finnish president, parliament speaker and several MPs.
He announced that a Finnish parliamentary delegation is due to visit the Islamic Republic in the near future.
