Everybody Knew His Name, Teddy

This file photo shows the Kennedy brothers, John F. Kennedy, left, Robert Kennedy, and Ted Kennedy, right, in Hyannis Port, Mass.

On 18 July 1969, Edward Moore (Nicknames: "Ted" or "Teddy") Kennedy in an attempt to shut up an affair and remove a problem that was felt would harm his political career with this pregnant young unmarried woman, who was carrying Ted Kennedy’s unborn child; while in the early evening, not the late hour originally claimed by Kennedy of 11:15 p.m. Kennedy drove with intent, his 1967 Oldsmobile Delmont 88 off a Chappaquiddick (Martha's Vineyard, Mass.) bridge and it overturned in the water, where Kennedy left the submerged car leaving intentionally because he never planned on helping the woman, left a very pregnant Mary Jo Kopechne to drown.

As stated by sources, Kennedy contacted his brother’s Robert and John Kennedy on what to do about Mary Jo after he had fled the crime scene; but intentionally failed to report the incident to the authorities until the car and Kopechne's body were discovered the next morning.

From President Kennedy's birthday gala where Marilyn Monroe sang the famous televised "Happy Birthday, Mr. President;" which some biographer’s claimed Marilyn was intoxicated while singing.

Earlier in the evening of the previous day, their had been numerous bouts of drinking and allegations of illegal drugs consumed. Which over the course of Kennedy’s life, he would have numerous affairs or classified a womanizer like his brothers Robert and John ( who's famous "embarrassing" affair with Marilyn Monroe, who many has classified her death as murder on 5 August 1962); but also Kennedy's severe bouts of obsessive drinking over the years.

While Kennedy was never charged with homicide, but rather went by the public view of the time, as being swept under the carpet; too many people that lived during this time still have felt that Kennedy was guilty of two counts of homicide.

1962 college yearbook portrait of Mary Jo Kopechne

What is ironic, a funeral for Mary Jo Kopechne was held on 22 July 1969, at St. Vincent's Roman Catholic Church in Plymouth, Pennsylvania, which was attended by Kennedy, who was also Roman Catholic. She is buried in the parish cemetery on the side of Larksville Mountain. Mary Jo, was only 28 years-old.

This is the legacy, that Ted Kennedy is actually most known for by many from that time, which has actually overshadowed his political career; until the day he died 25 August 2009, at 77 years-old.

I have always remembered this homicide case, due not just to the fact in was a premeditated homicide; but the horror of purposely letting a young woman, with an unborn baby drown to death. -

Aviation Pioneer Nancy-Bird Walton Laid to Rest in Sydney

Commemorative medals from the Australia Day 1990, The Queen's Birthday 1966, The Order of St John of Jerusalem, Queen Elizabeth 1937, George VI and the 2001 Centenary of Federation are seen on the casket of the late Nancy Bird-Walton AO OBE during her State Funeral at St Andrew's Cathedral on 21 January 2009 in Sydney, Australia. Bird-Walton was the youngest Australian woman ever to gain her pilot's license at the age of 19. She died of natural causes on 13 January at the age of 93.

21 January 2009

Reported by
Mark Tobin

ASHLEY HALL: She was a woman who guided her family with the grace of a glider and the determination of a jet fighter.

That's how Nancy-Bird Walton's granddaughter described the aviation pioneer at a state funeral in Sydney today. The 93-year-old died at her Sydney home last week. Among the tributes, a fly-over by a new Airbus A380 named in her honour.

PM's Mark Tobin was among the mourners.

(MUSIC: "Amazing Grace")

MARK TOBIN: Hundreds of mourners at Sydney's St Andrews Cathedral bowed their heads in tribute to the woman who became Australia's first female commercial pilot at the age of 19.

A large picture of Nancy-Bird Walton was projected onto a screen above a casket draped in the Australian flag. The medals she's been awarded through her long life sat on top of the coffin, a reminder of her passion for community service.

It was a passion her granddaughter Anna Holman described as infectious.

ANNA HOLMAN: A dearly loved member of our family who led us with the grace of a glider and the determination of a jet fighter.

MARK TOBIN: Nancy-Bird Walton began flying as a teenager, getting lessons from another aviation great, Charles Kingsford Smith.

Her first job as a commercial pilot was flying nurses and patients around far western New South Wales. She later founded the Australian Women Pilots' Association.

As an inspiration to generations of female pilots, the National Trust named Nancy-Bird Walton as a Living Treasure in 1997. Her long-time friend and fellow aviator Dick Smith told the service while Nancy-Bird Walton was a pioneer, she also had an eye to the future of aviation.

DICK SMITH: Whenever I appeared on television or I was quoted about my frustrations and the lack of reform and the way it was damaging general aviation, Nancy would be on the phone "Dick, what can I do? Who can I write to?".

MARK TOBIN: Before today's church service, the new Qantas A380 bearing Nancy-Bird Walton's name flew low over Sydney Harbour, the CBD and the cathedral as a tribute.

In September Nancy-Bird Walton attended a naming ceremony for the jet.

NANCY-BIRD WALTON: Qantas announced that it would name this magnificent aircraft after me at my 90th birthday nearly three years ago. And I made it my business to stay alive, and not just for today's ceremony, and I've made it. And I've made it.

MARK TOBIN: Elyse Fordham has been a Qantas pilot for 20 years. She says Nancy-Bird Walton was someone she looked up to.

ELYCE FORDHAM: I've met her a few times and I think she was an inspiration to all female pilots actually, with her passion and spirit for flying.

MARK TOBIN: But it's not just those with their head in the clouds who drew inspiration from the first lady of flight. The New South Wales Governor Marie Bashir says she was an inspiration for all Australians.

MARIE BASHIR: She was a soaring spirit in every way and anyone who met her would never forget her. She belongs to Australian history without a doubt.

ASHLEY HALL: The NSW Governor Marie Bashir ending that report from Mark Tobin.

To Lie in Death

Fatah mourners shout slogans as they carry the body of Abel Latif Harub in the West Bank city of Hebron on 3 April 2008.

Abel Harub, 25, was killed on 31 March when a Jewish settler shot him in the north of the West Bank city of Ramallah after he tried to stab two settlers waiting at a bus stop, the Army said.

While it is shown that Harub is draped with colors of former Hamas, this is not true, he was a member of Fatah terrorist organization.

This is just another ploy by Fatah, to even commit a lie unto death.

Fatah Murder's Child in Cold Blood

22 March 2008

By HRM Deborah

From my understanding, earlier in the day Fatah terrorist murdered a little Israeli Muslim girl about two years old that happened to walk into the road, apparently.

They killed her without remorse of any kind.

She was hit so hard on her young body that there was not much left of her.

She lay on the ground, with her left black dress shoe still sitting up right in the road. Where she had been standing just moment’s before the shooting.

Furthermore, this beautiful little girl had the nickname of “Wallet.”
The day she died, she was wearing a blue and white dress; that had a design on it.

She was from Selwad.

Former Afghan king dies

King Mohammed Zahir Shah [AFP, File]

23 July 2007

Mohammed Zahir Shah, the former Afghan king, has died aged 92.

Presidential palace sources announced the death on Monday, saying the former monarch died in his bed. He had been in poor health and used a wheelchair.

"He had been sick for a month," a palace official said.

Zahir Shah ruled Afghanistan from 1933 until he was deposed in 1973. He lived in exile in Italy before returning as an ordinary citizen in 2002.

He came from a long line of ethnic Pashtun rulers and is a distant relative of Hamid Karzai, the Afghan president.

He attended the opening of the loya jirga (grand council) in 2002 and some Afghans were keen to see him returned to power.

The former king's reign is remembered as one of the most peaceful periods of Afghanistan's history.

Born in Kabul on October 15, 1914, Zahir Shah received part of his education in France and returned to Kabul for military training.

He ascended the throne in 1933 after his father was assassinated by a student.

For two decades, he took a back seat, allowing three uncles to run the government. He gradually gained confidence and took control in 1953, overseeing a cautious modernisation of his country.

He supported an end to women wearing the veil, used foreign money to develop the country's infrastructure and balanced rival Soviet and Western interests in his country.

Coup

In 1973, while on holiday in Italy, he was removed in a bloodless coup by his cousin and brother-in-law, Prince Daoud, bringing to an end two centuries of rule by the Durrani dynasty.

Daoud was later killed in a coup, and after Soviet troops entered the country in 1979 to prop up the communist government, Afghanistan has barely seen peace.

Zahir Shah's wife, Homaira, whom he married in 1931, died as preparations were under way for her to return to Afghanistan to join her husband in 2002.

The couple had five sons and two daughters.

The Passing of Two Lives

March 12, 2007

by Housewife4Palestine

Every once in while a person seems to have to stand back and take stock of their life, especially when events that come our way seem to bring all of this about especially the important things in ones personal life.

The other day, a friend of my husband’s was shot between the eyes in America during a store robbery, apparently by two black men.

The friend, was 65 years old and the owner of a quaint corner market.

What is ironic, they where living in America where one would think it would be safer from being shot then in Palestine, but this were not the case. Most of all, this senseless death was for money.

While if I understood my husband correctly, these men that committed such a heinous act where caught by the police and are sitting in jail; but crimes such as this never seem to always get completely resolved.

Then we had the added sorrow, of a cousin just 45 years old dying of a heart attack, which my husband is spending time with the male members of the family for this.

I think how both these men are leaving family members and wives alone with the sorrow they are no longer with us to share the joys of their lives.

When occurrences such as this make’s one sit back to appreciate the love ones that are in our daily lives, for I can not help thinking that love of ones country is very important, but so is the love of family and friends which we cherish in spoonfuls from the heart.

One thing I have never completely understood is the way or how a person has passed away; seems to affect our lives or emotions in different ways.
