Japan Warned Of Nuclear Leak From U.S. Sub

Navy Says "Negligible" Amount of Radioactive Water Spilled From USS Houston During Pacific Tour

2 August 2008

Tokyo-The U.S. Navy said that one of its nuclear-powered submarines had leaked minimally radioactive water earlier this year, threatening to cause a stir in Japan where both the U.S. military presence and its nuclear vessels are controversial.

The Navy said Friday it discovered the leak July 17 when a gallon of water spilled from a valve while the submarine was in dry dock for routine maintenance at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. An investigation showed water may have been slowly leaking from the valve since March as the Los Angeles-class submarine traveled around the Pacific.

The total amount of radioactivity released into the environment from the USS Houston at each stop was less than one half a microcurie, U.S. Pacific Fleet spokesman Capt. Scott Gureck said.

Gureck said that was a negligible amount, equivalent to the radioactivity of a 50-pound bag of fertilizer.

Akihiro Yoshida, a city official in Sasebo where the USS Houston made a port call in late March, said that government monitoring showed no abnormal increase of radioactivity in the area's waters during the submarine's calls.

"Still, we are rather concerned," Yoshida said.

Many people in Japan, the only country to have suffered atomic bombings, are sensitive about the military use of nuclear technology and the presence of American forces. The U.S. atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945 killed at least 200,000 people.

News of the incident also comes just weeks ahead of the controversial arrival of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS George Washington to be based in Yokosuka, just south of Tokyo.

The carrier's arrival originally was set for August under a Japan-U.S. security alliance, but was delayed until late September because of a fire aboard the vessel in May. The George Washington is relieving the soon-to-be decommissioned USS Kitty Hawk and will be the first U.S. nuclear-powered ship to be stationed permanently in Japan.

The George Washington's deployment already has triggered protests, and the fire escalated concerns many Japanese have about nuclear power.

Masahiko Goto, a lawyer representing a citizens group opposing the George Washington's deployment, sharply criticized the U.S. Navy.

"They had discovered the radiation leak weeks ago and did not inform the Japanese government immediately," Goto said in a statement.

"The U.S. Navy's handling of the accident and lack of transparency showed there is no way we can trust them," he said.

The Navy said it didn't publicize the leak itself because the radioactivity released was below a level that would warrant a public announcement.

The Foreign Ministry acknowledged that it was told of the leak by the U.S. Navy on Friday but waited a day to announce it because the amount was negligible. The delay stirred a flurry of criticism.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Nobutaka Machimura called the delay "not good," and Defense Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi said "We'd have liked to hear from the Foreign Ministry earlier."

The delay also embarrassed Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura, who acknowledged that he learned about the leak from local media reports Saturday morning and said, "We should have made the announcement sooner."

The USS Houston is based at Apra Harbor in the U.S. territory of Guam in the Western Pacific. It visited a U.S. naval base in Sasebo in late March, and then stopped in Guam from late May to mid-June. The submarine sat in Pearl Harbor for about three weeks before it was dry-docked in mid-July.

Commentary
While some of the remarks in this article I do find a bit disturbing, because it is questionable to the respect of people; but nevertheless, what bothers me the most is a nuclear leak in waters that it is most assuredly still being used by the Japanese people for fishing and I very much hope because of this incident, that none of the Japanese people get sick.

Furthermore, the U.S. pounding other countries about nuclear responsibility, when they need a serious watchdog themselves, apparently; for global safety.

Bush's Beating Congress on Oil

For Immediate Release
Office of the Press Secretary
August 2, 2008

Audio
THE PRESIDENT: Good morning. This weekend marks the beginning of August, the month when many Americans take their summer vacation. This year, however, the high price of gas is taking a toll on summer travelers. Congress is now taking a month-long recess of its own. Unfortunately, Democratic leaders are leaving town without taking any action to ease the burden of high gas prices on families across America.

The fundamental source of high gas prices is the fact that supply is not keeping pace with demand. To reduce pressure on prices, we need to increase the supply of oil, especially oil produced here at home. So in June, I called on Congress to lift the legislative ban that prevents offshore exploration of parts of the Outer Continental Shelf, or OCS. But the leaders of the Democratic Congress have refused to allow a vote.
Lifting the ban on this offshore exploration would benefit our economy in two important ways.
First, lifting the ban would allow our Nation to take advantage of a large and reliable source of domestic oil. Experts believe that these restricted areas could eventually produce about 18 billion barrels of oil. That's almost 10 years worth of America's current oil production.

Second, lifting the ban would create new opportunities for American workers and businesses. On Tuesday, I visited the Lincoln Electric Company in Cleveland, Ohio, a business that produces welding products used for offshore exploration. If Congress were to permit this exploration, it would mean new jobs at businesses like Lincoln Electric. American drivers are counting on Congress to lift the ban on offshore exploration, and so are American workers.

Bringing these resources online will take time, and that means that the need for congressional action is urgent. I've lifted the executive restrictions on offshore exploration. This means that the only thing now standing between the American people and these vast oil resources is the United States Congress. The sooner Congress lifts the ban, the sooner we can get this oil from beneath the ocean floor to your gas tank.

We also need to take other essential steps to strengthen domestic oil production. Congress needs to pass legislation that allows us to tap the extraordinary potential of oil shale, permits exploration in currently restricted areas of northern Alaska, and enables the expansion of America's domestic refining capacity.

It appears that the leaders of the Democratically-controlled Congress will let the entire summer pass without voting on any of these vital steps to help reduce pressure on gas prices. This failure to act is unacceptable to me and unacceptable to the American people. So when they return from their summer break, Democratic leaders should show that they've heard the frustration of the American people by allowing a vote on offshore exploration. If Congress does not act, they will owe families across America an explanation for why they're ignoring their concerns.

I know that high energy prices are making this a difficult time for many of our citizens, but it is important to remember that these high prices were not inevitable. They are partially the result of policy choices that have been made over the years by the United States Congress. Now Congress has an opportunity to begin reversing that damage. By opening up new resources at home we can help bring energy costs down. And that will help ensure that our economy remains the strongest, most vibrant, and most hopeful in the world.

Thank you for listening.

The Fruit of Palestine’s Historical Government System

by HRM Deborah

The government system from times past is as it is today, which is that the Jewish people had a legal central government along with the Arab side having a legal central government, with a leader above both which has always been a Queen or the only country in the Middle East to have a female, Caliph and from the time of Muhammad (PBUH) has been considered and Islamic State not just in respect to Islam, but protection of all the people. As one knows, the Queen is a direct descendant towards both sides which creates impartiality, but more respect for the two as a family, among other issues.

Nevertheless, the Queen’s family is one of the oldest families to ever live in Palestine; who also is the one that in times past helped the country prosper, protect and settled certain issues that came especially that may occur between the two religions; along with other things the was required.

The reason for the a Jewish system and Islamic system of government was so both could not only live according to the teachings of the two religions, but the great respect for the two.

The Torah only speaks of that which was of the Jewish people and I never understood why it never gave the larger picture, for that one looks towards the Quran or other historical documentation; which does still exists from my understanding.

The Jewish people’s original system of government was strictly the laws and teaching of Judaism and not democracy, because the original system was by G-D, just like the Sharia system is on the same principle for Muslims.

For Palestine has always been Allah’s (G-d‘s) heart or as written called the center of Allah’s (G-d‘s) throne and it was always considered the land of one family and originally two religions, which as everyone knows in latter times changed a bit; with the addition of Christianity and so forth.

In mentioning a little towards my religious education, while I was taught to respect all religions and the fact I wished to learn very much, that I was encouraged to learn of the three major religions and my mother use to say that I excelled in this area. In times past, the Queen had to have the same knowledge I understand, but according to many people later, I have excelled beyond what most people thought was possible; which I will admit is a puzzle to me.

This was not necessarily done for the sake of learning, but I use to say, I wished to know as much about Allah as I could and in doing so; in turn, I learned to appreciate people in numerous ways. Because in my understanding, the qualities that Allah is known for, was just as important for mankind in certain respects among other issues.

God willing, I hope this answers the question and I will always do my best towards any question.

The Good VS Evil Tug-of-War

by HRM Deborah

Most everyone knows some of the events known in history such as Noah and the Ark along with a great deluge, that drowned a lot of people because of sin and other events that was either so sinful or frightening that the hair stood up on the back of one’s necks.

For the sake of little discussion, one usually says that Noah and his family were true to Allah and the people that drowned listened to Satan and followed his temptations of sin. So Allah caused the deluge to clean the earth, because these people had gotten so bad.

Within a society sometimes when Satan thinks he has a firm grasp and all of sudden things start changing for the good again, sometimes there is a destabilization because Satan doesn’t like to lose; this is why certain events contributed to the end of time that occur, they may seem so awful. It is kind of like a tug-of-war with Allah on one side and Satan on the other pulling back and forth.

For example, the man that murder the other man on the Greyhound bus in Canada, or the imbalance of the economy; even to other types environmental factors.

All through the end time prophesies, especially the wars; this is actually what is occurring, good against evil.

One may say what is the use, if it is going to get so bad, like any good event or story, one has to be accountable at the end or stop the evil, before it gets a firmer foot hold and turn it around which actually saves the world.

If one has some knowledge of prophesy or the other past events, then they know the two examples I gave are minor to what can come; if people do not stop listening to Satan and instead plant the good seeds.

Passenger beheaded on Canada bus

31 July 2008

BRANDON, Man. -A man on a Greyhound bus travelling across the Canadian Prairies has killed and decapitated a fellow passenger.

An eyewitness said the victim was stabbed 50 or 60 times by the man sitting next to him, who then severed his head with a large knife.

The driver pulled over and passengers fled from the bus, bracing the door to keep the attacker inside.

A 40-year-old man was arrested after a stand-off lasting several hours and remains in police custody.

The bus, with 37 passengers and a driver aboard, was travelling from Edmonton, Alberta, to Winnipeg, Manitoba.

"All of a sudden, we all heard this scream, this bloodcurdling scream," passenger Garnet Caton told CBC television.

"The attacker was standing up right over the top of the guy with a large hunting knife - a survival, Rambo knife - holding the guy and continually stabbing him... in the chest area," Mr Caton added.

'Like a robot'

The attack continued as passengers fled the bus and waited for police on a desolate stretch of the TransCanada Highway near Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.

Mr Caton, the bus driver and a trucker who had stopped at the scene boarded the vehicle to see if the victim was still alive.

"When we came back on the bus... he was cutting the guy's head off and pretty much gutting him up," Mr Caton said.

The attacker ran at them, Mr Caton said, and they ran out of the bus, holding the door shut to prevent him getting out.

"He calmly walks up to the front [of the bus] with the head in his hand and the knife and just calmly stares at us and drops the head right in front of us," Mr Caton said.

"There was no rage in him ... It was just like he was a robot or something," he added.

A 40-year-old man was arrested by police at around 0100 (0700 GMT) on Wednesday night, Royal Canadian Mounted Police Sgt Steve Colwell told reporters.

He said that police apprehended the suspect after a confrontation lasting several hours when the man broke a bus window and tried to escape.

The man has not yet been charged, Sgt Colwell said, adding that he could release no further information on the investigation.

The RCMP have not identified the suspect or the victim.

When the attacker tried to drive the bus away, the driver disabled the vehicle.

"Some people were puking, some people were crying, other people were in shock ... everybody was running, screaming off the bus," Mr Caton said.

Sgt Colwell said the "brave" behaviour of the passengers and driver probably prevented anyone else from being hurt.

Other passengers said that the attacker and his victim were sitting at the back of the bus and the victim, described as around 20 years old, was listening to music through headphones.

The attack appeared to be unprovoked and it is thought the killer did not know his victim.

The passengers have been taken to a hotel in Brandon, Manitoba, and are being given crisis counselling.

Chilling witness account

Commentary

I was actually horrified to think some parts of society is turning into this direction of just committing wanton acts of murder and of all things on public transportation.

Even I realize that crime has been ramped for sometime, but this is just pure murderous barbarism.

While some parts of the world still beheads a criminal for committing certain unpardonable crimes, but in this case; it was just plain premeditated murder.

This just a good example, of the destabilization of society or the old adage idea of things running amuck.

U.S. Jobless rate rises to 5.7 percent

Jobs brochures on display at a state unemployment office in Sunnyvale, Calif., Wednesday, 30 July 2008.

The nation's unemployment rate climbed to a four-year high of 5.7 percent in July as employers cut 51,000 jobs.

July's reductions marked the seventh straight month where employers eliminated jobs. The economy has lost an estimated total of 463,00 jobs so far this year.

The excuse given for this sudden rise is young people streaming for summer jobs is why the unemployment is on the rise.

With companies still downsizing, going bankrupt or just leaving the country; along with just massive layoffs, certainly wouldn’t have anything to do with the current increase of unemployment.

Then with the further destabilization of the stock market and it’s outlook that has many putting on the breaks because of the uncertain futures.

While the U.S. is still juggling the economy baby so to speak, with the quicksand of implosion under there feet; then one has the largest global shift in numerous aspects, which has not been seen for several thousand years. Even to the idea, of a sudden shift of time or at least that was what it was called, in past.

Knesset to form State commission of inquiry on water crisis

The Sea of Galilee in the red.
State Control Committee orders immediate formation of probe committee to investigate reasons for current waster crisis. Current situation result of series of governmental failures, says MK Orlev

29 July 2008
by Amnon Meranda

The Knesset's State Control Committee ordered the formation of a State commission of inquiry Monday in order to investigate the causes for the major water crisis Palestine faces.

The motion to form a State commission of inquiry – a rare move by the Control Committee – was carried 12 to 15, with no objections.

State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss, whose support is needed to form any State commission of inquiry, gave his unequivocal support for the move.

The future commission is to be tasked with investigating the failures that led the various Israeli governments to disregard dozens of reports and recommendations drafted by professional committees formed throughout the years and compiling a series of short and long-term recommendations that would ensure that the water supply would remain intact.

The commission's codex is to be form by State Control Committee Chairman MK Zevulun Orlev (NRP).

"The water crisis is the result of a series of governmental failures…Over the years, the governments chose to give precedence to immediate financial considerations over allocating the necessary funds to create desalination facilities, rehabilitating the water aquifers, implementing an effective water-economizing plan and reclaimed drainage water.

"I can only hope this commission will operate with the due urgency and submit recommendations that could be implemented immediately," said Orlev.

National Infrastructure Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer added the country "is in the midst of the biggest water crisis it has ever known. The 2007-2008 droughts were severe, and we only got about 65% of the expected rainfall.

"The Jewish Water Authority has formed an emergency contingency plan, which can pull Israel out of its water crisis."

Ben-Eliezer recounted the lack of action taken by pervious governments: "I demand this commission investigate the actions taken by the Ministry of National Infrastructure, first and foremost.

"I want the commission to assign clear blame and state the reasons for it," he said, adding that it was high-time the ministry stop using the budget as an excuse for lack of action.

Jannati calls on nation to observe patience when facing hardships

1 August 2008

Tehran-Provisional Friday Prayer Leader of Tehran referring to Supreme Leader's recent remarks on Mab'ath Eid, said here Friday his eminence called on people to be resistant and observe patience at all time, and in confrontation with hardships.

According to IRNA Political Desk reporter, Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati addressing thousands of Tehrani worshipers at central campus of Tehran University, further reiterated in his second sermon, "Continuing resistance is a need, we will tolerate sanctions and enmities, and stand tall at our Islamic stronghold."

The Secretary of the Guardians Council of the Constitution said, "Jut like the Infallible Imams (P), who resisted in confrontation with hardships, and their resistance and patience led to Islam and Shi'a's enduring, as well as the victory of the Islamic Revolution against the power of atheist enemies thanks to resistance, today, too, we are in need of continuing resistance."

Elsewhere in his sermon Jannati appreciated the Judiciary force, the Intelligence Ministry and the Disciplinary Forces for arresting, putting to trial, and execution of the hooligans, arguing, "This decisive move was praiseworthy, since the roots of corruption need to be dried."

The Interim Friday Prayer Leader of Tehran reiterated, "It does not make sense that in the Islamic Republic of Iran a single person would kill 50 human beings and then walk at large in the streets, or that someone found guilty of raping would roam freely in the society." He added, "Such moves should have been made decades ago, and yet, even today they are to be appreciated."

Jannati condemned those "who are sitting abroad, receiving prizes from the foreigners, and condemning such moves," arguing, "If they had suffered miseries, such as being raped, they would have approved of the Iranian nation's move in this respect."

Jabotinsky Memorial Service

Jewish Prime Minister Ehud Olmert (R) and opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu (L) are separated by an empty chair as they attend a memorial service for Zeev Jabotinsky, Zionist leader and founder of the Jewish right-wing ideology, at a cemetery in Jerusalem, on 31 July 2008.

What is interesting about this particular photograph is the body language between Netanyahu and Olmert, this alone speaks volumes.

While I do not approve of Zionism because of the harm it created towards the Jewish people, this particular scene between these two men was sure to overshadow this service and apparently, being one of those situations where certain people had to attend.

While I know little about Zeev Jabotinsky, he did appear to be a man of some contradictions’ towards what one usually understood about the Zionist movement. But it doesn’t, change my view of this movement; because it had came close to destroying the Jewish people.

According to Jewish law, every naturally-born first-born child who is male belongs to God, and his parents should 'redeem' him by making a symbolic payment to a Cohen, a Jewish man descended from the first Jewish priest Aaron, the brother of Moses.
Ultra-Orthodox Jewish men and boys celebrate after the Redemption Of The First Born ceremony over month-old infant Yehoshua Rosenboim (not pictured) at the Lalov synagogue.
Ultra-Orthodox Jews pack the Lalov synagogue for the Redemption of the First Born ceremony.

Not just through Moses, but my very great uncle Isaac is actually the ancestry of this baby; which to my understanding would be a cousin for me and I wish this baby to have many blessings within, there life.

Something that has always been strange for me since I was born Muslim as well as those before me on one side of a family, that because of the way Allah did things for a particular reason; that a family would be split between two religions.

While it is historical fact of why this happened, even though the generations, it still give’s many thoughts.

Furthermore from my understanding, while both Judaism and Islam, prayed for my birth; that both celebrated, when I was born.

Nevertheless, while I will admit I do not fully understand yet everything that has been said to me, that a person that was born in the manner that has been brought to my attention; that in a manner of speaking, I may very well be walking within these two religions, possibly more. Because, if I am the person that everyone keeps insisting I am, this type of person for lack of a better word is universal. -HRM Deborah

U.S. President Bush Discusses Iraq

For Immediate Release
Office of the Press Secretary
July 31, 2008

Video
THE PRESIDENT: Good morning. This has been a month of encouraging news from Iraq. Violence is down to its lowest level since the spring of 2004, and we're now in our third consecutive month with reduced violence levels holding steady. General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker caution that the progress is still reversible, but they report that there now appears to be a "degree of durability" to the gains we have made.

A significant reason for this sustained progress is the success of the surge. Another is the increasing capability of the Iraqi forces. Iraqi forces now have 192 combat battalions in the fight -- and more than 110 of these battalions are taking the lead in combat operations against terrorists and extremists.

We saw the capability of those forces earlier this year, when the Iraqi government launched successful military operations against Shia extremist groups in Basra, Amarah, and the Sadr City area of Baghdad. Because of these operations, extremists who once terrorized the citizens of these communities have been driven from their strongholds. As a result, our Ambassador to Iraq, Ryan Crocker, was able to walk the streets of Sadr City last Wednesday, as something that would not have been possible just a few months ago.

This week, the Iraqi government is launching a new offensive in parts of the Diyala province that contain some of al Qaeda's few remaining safe havens in the country. This operation is Iraqi-led; our forces are playing a supporting role. And in the moments -- in the months ahead, the Iraqis will continue taking the lead in more military operations across the country.

As security in Iraq has improved, the Iraqi government has made political progress as well. The Iraqi Council of Representatives has passed several major pieces of legislation this year, and Iraqi leaders are preparing for provincial elections. And Prime Minister Maliki recently returned from a successful visit to Europe, where he held important diplomatic discussions with Chancellor Merkel, Prime Minister Berlusconi, and His Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI.

The progress in Iraq has allowed us to continue our policy of "return on success." We now have brought home all five of the combat brigades and the three Marine units that were sent to Iraq as part of the surge. The last of these surge brigades returned home this month. And later this year, General Petraeus will present me his recommendations on future troop levels -- including further reductions in our combat forces as conditions permit.

As part of the "return on success" policy, we are also reducing the length of combat tours in Iraq. Beginning tomorrow, troops deploying to Iraq will serve 12-month tours instead of 15-month tours. This will ease the burden on our forces -- and it will make life easier for our wonderful military families.

We're also making progress in our discussion with Prime Minister Maliki's government on a strategic framework agreement. This agreement will serve as the foundation for America's presence in Iraq once the United Nations resolution authorizing the multinational forces there expires on December the 31st.

We remain a nation at war. Al Qaeda is on the run in Iraq -- but the terrorists remain dangerous, and they are determined to strike our country and our allies again. In this time of war, America is grateful to all the men and women who have stepped forward to defend us. They understand that we have no greater responsibility than to stop the terrorists before they launch another attack on our homeland. And every day they make great sacrifices to keep the American people safe here at home. We owe our thanks to all those who wear the uniform -- and their families who support them in their vital work. And the best way to honor them is to support their mission -- and bring them home with victory.

Thank you very much.

Karadzic appears at UN war crimes tribunal

1 July 2008

By
MIKE CORDER

Video

Former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic appeared at the U.N.'s Yugoslav war crimes tribunal for the first time Thursday, telling the judge he would defend himself against charges of genocide and crimes against humanity.

Appearing older and thinner than during the Bosnian war and shorn of the long white hair and bushy beard that once disguised him, Karadzic refused to enter pleas on the 11 charges against him or have his full indictment read to him.

He told the court he would act as his own lawyer.

"I have an invisible adviser but I have decided to represent myself," he calmly told presiding judge Alphons Orie.

Karadzic, who smiled at times during the hearing, listened intently as Orie read a summary of the indictment in which prosecutors allege Karadzic masterminded atrocities, including the Srebrenica massacre and siege of Sarajevo during Bosnia's 1992-95 war.

"I am not interested in having someone else read the indictment to me," he said. "I would rather receive the new indictment that has been announced and have sufficient time to study it and then have my initial appearance for that and enter my plea."

Prosecutor Serge Brammertz confirmed that he was planning to amend the indictment but gave no further details.

Orie scheduled a new hearing on Aug. 29 at which Karadzic will have to enter pleas. If he does not, the court will enter not guilty pleas for him.

Karadzic then identified himself by stating his name, date and place of birth. He also gave his most recent address as his family home in Pale, Bosnia, but also gave the address of the apartment in Belgrade where he was living under an assumed name before his address.

When Orie asked him if his family knew where he was being held, Karadzic replied "I do not believe there is anyone who does not know that I am in the detention unit."

When Orie asked him if his family knew where he was being held, Karadzic smiled and replied "I do not believe there is anyone who does not know that I am in the detention unit."

A Guide to the Rebirth of Nuclear Power In the United States

And its Implications for the Nuclear Waste Industry

Three Mile Island Nuclear Power Plant-The accident at the Three Mile Island Unit 2 nuclear power plant near Middletown, Pennsylvania, on 28 March 1979, was considered the most serious in U.S. commercial nuclear power plant operating history.

30 July 2008

Private contractors steal billions from Uncle Sam

Much reconstruction work in Iraq has been carried out by the Iraqi people in their own communities using local resources. -by resource.

30 July 2008

by
Barbara Ferguson

WASHINGTON- The federal government paid a US contractor up to $900 million to carry out reconstruction in Iraq, and now says the company did not fulfill its contract but simply walked away with millions of taxpayers’ dollars.

California-based Parsons had projects awarded by the US Army Corps of Engineers in the “security and justice sector,” including much-needed prisons, a series of border posts, courthouses and fire stations.

The company was paid $333 million as of May 21, the audit said, including more than $142 million on projects that were either terminated or canceled, and the government paid an additional $34 million to settle claims made by Parsons and its subcontractors.

According to the special inspector general for Iraq reconstruction, millions of taxpayers’ dollars were squandered in “incomplete, terminated and abandoned” projects in Iraq.

The report notes that the US government, in a final careless act of waste, left behind $1.2 million worth of unguarded construction supplies, most of which are now missing. Three more contractors were paid another $9 million to finish the job, but they failed to do so. The money was wasted, and there is no chance it will ever be recovered.

Inspectors found that Parsons was paid for 53 contracts, but only 18 were completed. Of the $333 million Parsons was paid before the company left Iraq, $142 million was for projects that were never finished.

The US Justice Department is burdened with some 900 cases of whistleblowers accusing government contractors of fraud. It will take years to work through the backlog. In the larger scheme of waste, fraud, negligence and incompetence by government contractors in Iraq, Parsons is a small player. The amount of money lost, wasted and stolen is massive — billions and billions of dollars.

The Defense Contract Audit Agency said it has found $10 billion in questionable contracts for services and equipment in Iraq.

The US government is currently spending $12 billion a month in Iraq, much of it with little accountability or oversight. Projects are plagued by cost overruns, poor record keeping, high turnover and criminally shoddy work. Inferior electrical work resulted in the deaths of 13 service members and, in just one six-month period, 283 electrical fires.

Stuart Bowen, the special inspector general for Iraq reconstruction, told reporters that his agency’s 120 audits on Iraqi reconstruction projects “tell an episodic story of waste.”

A recent report found that of the $21 billion earmarked for reconstruction funds, about $4 billion was wasted in one way or another. One company in particular, Houston-based KBR Inc., has been accused of overbilling the government and using poor accounting practices.

A civilian official working with the US Army said that when he refused to sign off on $1 billion in questionable charges from KBR he was replaced and KBR’s charges were approved by higherups.

KBR was formerly owned by Halliburton, a Texas company whose chief executive was Vice President Dick Cheney.

But there have been success stories on the ground. This reporter met a contactor last year who said he always completed his contracts for the US government. When asked his secret, he said, anonymously: “It’s easy. When I win the contract to build, say, a school in a town in Iraq, the first thing I do is ask to meet the town’s council of elders. I then ask them if they would like a new school in their town. They always say they would. I then ask them where they would like the school to be built, and then ask them if they can supply the work force.

“That way I empower the local authorities, and rather than bring in ‘TCNs’ (third country nationals), I pump money into the local economy, which keeps us pretty safe. It is simple,” he told Arab News. “But you’d be amazed at the number of US contractors who haven’t figured this out.”

Temple is in Our Hands

Destruction of the Temple of Jerusalem, by Francesco Hayez.

By HRM Deborah

On this issue of a third Jewish temple and I am going to be very honest here, is that from prophesy the only time that there will be such as this is further towards the end of time and has to be by God, not by man‘s decision.

Because if man tries to change anything that God has on a certain timetable especially due to impatience, God usually in a manner of speaking get’s very upset and the outcome is usually very bad.

While there is several issues it seems in this time due to not wishing to wait when it is the proper time, not only takes things out of a person hands; but tends to be a hard slap upon the face, by God.

Last time such as this occurred as a major event, was the Jewish Diaspora and I for one do not wish this to happen again, towards the Jewish people.

From my knowledge, if a third Jewish temple is started without God’s timetable, the outcome will be worse than Jewish Diaspora and I am not saying this to be mean; but as a warning reminder, for the sake of the Jewish people.
As for God being with anyone in this time period, it is a reminder; He always has been, just look and listen and one will know.

Congestion toll for Tel Aviv by 2009

by HRM Deborah

Instead of charging a toll because of the pollution situation and the possibility of not just hurting the poor, but the possibility of hurting tourism; why not check into emission devices or smog control devices for the automobiles and so forth.

This may help everyone in the long run and help control the pollution problem.

Four Germany-based US soldiers charged with pre-meditated killing of Iraqi prisoners

30 June 2008

Berlin-Four Germany-based US soldiers are accused of killing an unidentified number of Iraqi detainees in cold blood last year, the European edition of the American military daily Stars and Stripes reported Wednesday.

The four GIs who are scheduled to stand trial in the south German town of Vilseck on August 26, are charged with committing premeditated murder in Iraq after taking male prisoners to a canal where they shot them.

The alleged crime occurred while the soldiers who were part of the 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment and the "2nd Dagger" Brigade near Baghdad between March 10 and April 16, 2007, according to the US army.

The US military has not revealed how many Iraqi men were murdered but did announce last January that that more than one prisoner died.

The accused US troops are now assigned to other military units and are not in pre-trial detention, American military officials were quoted saying.

The apparent murder of the Iraqi detainees was first announced in a news release posted on the US army's official website back in January.

A Man from Burundi

Burundi (East Africa), man with basket on there back picking tea.

A Muslim man from Burundi helped me today, with a small problem that I had which I had no choice but ask for help and while I do not know much about this country, I have to admit; if they are anything like the man that gave me help when I was in need, they must be very nice people.

Something else, very nice about these people, they are not just nice within themselves, but very respectful and seemed to be very good Muslims; which under the circumstances, I was most grateful.

As to knowing anything much further towards this country, I have to admit my knowledge is poor; even though the nice man was trying to explain a little.

Something like this instance, I always think of it as Allah’s way of showing a person, something new to learn or understand; even when it did not start off that way.

This further reminds me of something I have always liked to do, is learn about people; for the simple fact, while sometimes a person may think there life is uninteresting at least to themselves; to others it may be fascinating for a variety of very good reasons.

Like a young American woman one time, that thought she had a dead end job as a shop clerk and we got to talking and I learned she was very gifted, within certain types of the arts or another woman who was Palestinian, that made very beautiful window drapes. -HRM Deborah

This photograph is another finding, while looking for photograph’s of U.S. President George W. Bush.

While there was more then one view on the site page of this lovely tree, it is a wonder if this was someone’s idea of Bush in reality of standing alone; as far as not only his country, but as the world is concerned towards there feelings of him?

Furthermore, ‘on a Bavarian meadow‘, is actually the title of this photograph.

President Bush Meets with Cabinet Members

U.S. President George W. Bush speaks to the media demanding that Congress lift the ban on off-shore oil exploration of the outer continental shelf with members of his Cabinet in the Rose Garden at the White House, on 30 July 2008 in Washington, DC. Members of the Cabinet include Attorney General Michael Mukasey, Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Defense Secretary Robert Gates, Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne, Agriculture Secretary Ed Schafer, Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez, Labor Secretary Elaine Chao, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Steve Preston, Transportation Secretary Mary Peters, Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman, Veterans Affairs Secretary James Peake, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, EPA Administrator Stephen Johnson.

For Immediate Release
Office of the Press Secretary
July 30, 2008

Video
THE PRESIDENT: Good morning. I just finished a good Cabinet meeting, and I want to thank the members of my Cabinet for serving our country. We discussed the challenges facing our economy, amongst other things, and we spent time on the high gasoline prices. Every one of our citizens who drives to work or runs a small business is feeling the squeeze of rising prices at the pump, and they expect their elected leaders in Washington to take some common-sense action.

To reduce pressure on prices, we need to increase the supply of oil -- especially here at home. So in June, I called on Congress to lift the legislative ban that prevents offshore exploration on the Outer Continental Shelf. Unfortunately, Democratic leaders in Congress have refused to allow a vote. And now Congress is about to leave for its August recess without taking any action on this vital priority for the American people.

There is now a growing agreement across our country that the government should permit the exploration and development of these offshore oil resources.

Exploration of the OCS would increase our supply of oil here at home. Experts believe that currently restricted areas of the OCS could eventually produce up to about 18 billion barrels of oil. That's almost 10 years' worth of America's current oil production.

Exploration of the OCS would also create jobs for our citizens. Yesterday, I visited the Lincoln Electric Company in Cleveland, Ohio -- it's a business that produces welding products used for offshore exploration. If Congress were to permit exploration of the OCS, it would mean jobs at businesses such as these. American drivers on -- are counting on Congress to lift the ban on offshore exploration -- and so are American workers.

Bringing OCS resources online is going to take time -- and that means that the need for congressional action is urgent. So I've lifted the executive restrictions on offshore exploration. I've done my part. And that means the only thing now standing now between the American people and these vast oil resources is the United States Congress. The sooner Congress lifts the ban, the sooner we can get this oil from the ocean floor to your gas tank.

Some members of Congress say they object to exploration of the OCS, but they are in favor of other actions -- such as taking oil out of the nation's Strategic Petroleum Reserve. Well, if you agree that we need more oil, it makes no sense to say you're for draining our nation's limited Strategic Reserve, but against tapping into the vast resources of the Outer Continental Shelf.

America needs to take every reasonable and responsible step we can do to reduce pressure on gasoline and energy prices. That's precisely what my administration is doing. We're working to expand domestic oil production. And at the same time, we're working to speed the development of new clean and alternative energy resources. We're raising fuel efficiency standards, expanding the use of alternative fuels, and investing in next-generation fuels such as cellulosic ethanol and biodiesel. We're investing in new advanced batteries, and plug-in hybrids, and hydrogen fuel cells. We're working to expand the use of clean, safe nuclear power, solar and wind power, and clean coal technology. With these steps, we're enhancing America's energy security -- and increasing the supply of clean, safe energy made right here in the United States of America.

The time for action is now. This is a difficult period for millions of American families. Every extra dollar they have to spend because of high gas prices is one less dollar they can use to put food on the table, or to pay the rent, or meet their mortgages. The American people are rightly frustrated by the failure of Democratic leaders in Congress to enact common-sense solutions -- like the development of the oil resources on the Outer Continental Shelf.

There are now just a couple of days left before Congress leaves for its August recess. Legislation to open up this offshore exploration is pending in both the House and the Senate -- all Democratic leaders have to do is allow a vote. They should not leave Washington without doing so.

Thank you very much.

No Religious Persecution in Palestine

A Jewish woman walks towards an army base in the city of Hebron, where she lives with her family, on 30 July 2008.

by HRM Deborah

I am hearing anti-semantic remarks and I do not care if it is coming from within Palestine or from outside the country towards Palestine, it is not acceptable; for we will not have any form of religious persecution or racism in any form, in or towards Palestine or her citizens.

For example, if one happened to be the only Christian in a country, they have the right to be just that, a Christian in that country.

For Palestine is a predominate Semitic country and has been for thousands of years, with regards to three major monotheistic religions within this country and Allah willing, it will remain so for many more thousands of years; without anyone being subjected to any kind of insufferable mistreatment.

What some people may not realize when they make an anti-semantic remark thinking it is just a manner to insult just the Jewish people, but to the contrary; the Arab Palestinians are also Semantic and just happen to be of the Islamic faith. Then you have Christians in the country, which also happen to be of Semantic ancestry.

So my idea of thinking, when anyone makes an anti-semantic slur, they are insulting a lot of people from more then one religion; gives one something to chew on.

Furthermore, the only problem I have ever had, is some political ideology that hurts people instead of help them.

I am thinking someone is going to make a remark about the Canaanites, they have never actually had citizenship in Palestine for about the 9,000 years they have been in the country; if even they may try to make people think, otherwise and up to our modern times they have always been, even when people over the centuries had tried to make better for them; they are still just the same people who have tried to steal a host country, rob the country, murder and so forth all the time they have been in Palestine.

Just in our modern times, they finally got a label for these century old type of crimes, calling it Terrorism and as for religious belief’s, they have always been considered idolaters, because the first idols in Palestine came from them and religion is a mark on a shirt sleeve; as verified with historical facts.

Nevertheless, if my memory serves me correctly, they are also the only people in Palestine that is not Semantic in origin.

As far as consideration on racism, this is also not a factor in this case, because it also has been recorded with historical facts; that the Canaanites have always been condemned by Allah (God) for there numerous crimes and insults towards Him.

A Day in Court for German National

30 July 2008

by HRM Deborah

This is without disrespect to the German government, but there Cameraman as was said was arrested on probable cause of being associated with a terrorist attack and accusations of mistreatment among other remarks towards the detainee’s situation is not helping matters.

There have been quite a number of people claiming to be German or Bavarian nationals and they have been caught in the past and some have current warrants being associated with global terrorist, Interpol fugitive Mahmoud Abbas’s terrorist organization.

As for closing German ARD television channel office, it is their choice, but since Sawah Abu Saif was legitimately arrested and as the American’s use to say, 'he wiil get his day in court' and that is all there is to it.

It is most assured, if this type of situation occurred in Germany, they would think differently.

Update:
Accusations of mistreat while under arrest from this 42-year-old man is a lie, because this kind of situation is not the policy in Palestine nor has it ever been.

Furthermore, Palestine does believe in human rights; you must have had us mistaken with the numerous charges of this type of treatment which is being accused more towards the West and has been there policy for hundreds of years.

An Idea of a Bad Joke

By HRM Deborah

In seeing remarks and I am thinking it is just someone’s idea of a bad joke, at least it should be; about Arab Palestinians disliking the Jewish people.

It should be reinforced for understanding, that the Arab Palestinian people have no dislike for the Jewish people in any manner or for people in general but just the opposite is true; because this is against everything we as people would ever believe in.

For example these types of accusations, would be as though, any Arab Palestinian would cut off there nose to spite there face or another example, of going an kicking your cousin in the knee because one has nothing better to do, which would be in both instance‘s, be just plain stupid.

To further state, that the Arab Palestinians still believe in loving ones neighbor, as I am sure the Jewish people believe the same.

So whomever made the bad joke, it is returned to them along with the hope, they learn to love as well.

United States House OKs apology for slavery

Following lead of Virginia, other states, vote aims 'to remedy the ills of our past'

30 July 2008

WASHINGTON- The House yesterday issued an unprecedented apology to black Americans for the wrongs committed against them and their ancestors who suffered under slavery and Jim Crow segregation laws.

"Today represents a milestone in our nation's efforts to remedy the ills of our past," said Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, D-Mich., chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus.

The resolution, passed by voice vote, was the work of Tennessee Democrat Steve Cohen, the only white lawmaker to represent a majority black district. Cohen faces a formidable black challenger in a primary face-off next week.

Congress has issued apologies before -- to Japanese-Americans for their internment during World War II and to native Hawaiians for the overthrow of the Hawaiian kingdom in 1893. In 2005, the Senate apologized for failing to pass anti-lynching laws.

Five states including Virginia have issued apologies for slavery, but past proposals in Congress have stalled, partly over concerns that an apology would lead to demands for reparations -- payment for damages.

The Cohen resolution does not mention reparations. It does commit the House to rectifying "the lingering consequences of the misdeeds committed against African-Americans under slavery and Jim Crow."

It says Africans forced into slavery "were brutalized, humiliated, dehumanized and subjected to the indignity of being stripped of their names and heritage" and that black Americans today continue to suffer from the consequences of slavery and Jim Crow laws that fostered discrimination and segregation.

The House "apologizes to African-Americans on behalf of the people of the United States, for the wrongs committed against them and their ancestors who suffered under slavery and Jim Crow."

"Slavery and Jim Crow are stains upon what is the greatest nation on the face of the earth," Cohen said.

Part of forming a more perfect union, he said, "is such a resolution as we have before us today where we face up to our mistakes and apologize as anyone should apologize for things that were done in the past that were wrong."

Supreme Leader: Iranians determined to follow up their clear path

30 July 2008

Tehran-Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said here Wednesday that Iranian nation is determined to follow up their clear path.

"Resistance under all conditions is the big lesson of the Great Prophet of Islam Hazrat Mohammad (Peace Be Upon Him). Relying on the decisive lesson (of the prophet) and by having strong presence in all fields and scenes of campaign, engagement and dialogue, the Great Iranian nation will continue their clear path," said Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution in an address to a group of officials, people from different walks of life and Muslim ambassadors on the occasion of the auspicious feast of Mab'ath, marking divine assignment of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).

Ayatollah Khamenei said having a right stance is the key but not sufficient condition for progress.

"Based on a divine tradition, right will be victorious when its followers keep resistance under all conditions," he said.

The Supreme Leader said contrary to the world bullying powers' wishes, the Great Iranian nation will continue supporting the oppressed Palestinian nation.

He said that Iranian nation strongly condemns dirty and impudent silence of the so-called advocates of freedom and human rights in the face of Zionists' daily crimes and injustice.

The Supreme Leader also said the US President George W. Bush's support for the murderer and terrorist Zionists is in brazen contradiction with his claim of support for freedom.

"Iranian nation is awake and fully understands the facts," announced the Iranian Supreme Leader.

Recalling bullying and ambitious nature of the world arrogance, Ayatollah Khamenei said, "Backing down one step in the face of the arrogance will encourage it to come one step forward. The idea, that retreatment and giving up right stances and words will make the arrogance change its policy, is totally wrong and baseless." Terming nuclear bomb producers and the ones threatening mankind's security and calm as "Abujahl" (ignorant persons) in today's world, Ayatollah Khamenei said, "The present time Abujahls (ignorant persons), who only look at their arms and roar like foolish hooligans, do know that Iranian nation pursues nuclear energy for electricity generation.

They (the west) however claim that since such a work gives you (Iranians) power, we (westerners) will not allow (you to pursue it).

Iranian nation will of course defy such claims and continue their path, relying on their helpful experience and on the reliable benefits of its 30-year resistance."

The Paramount leader said Iranian nation's present capability, and regional influence and strength cannot be compared with the past.

"A bright horizon is ahead of dear Iran; we do know what we do and where we will get. We think that reaching to the point needs movement and perseverance and not standing idle or moving backward." Ayatollah Khamenei concluded that today, Muslims should be wise enough and upgrade their knowledge standards and try to fully materialize the prophethood message.

Commentary
The Zionist situation in Palestine is from my understanding now very small, the major collaborators with Bush, is terrorist Mahmoud Abbas and his organization.

The Jewish people as a whole are not a problem in any manner; this should be fully understood, in its meaning, inshaallah.

As for some other remarks, I have no comment due to lack of understanding, on my part.

Nevertheless, I do say thank you, for thinking so kind of me.

As to understanding any prophet, always ask Allah to teach you and never forget to always listen to your heart. Also, true faith moves mountains and can change tides of seas. But always remember, to do all things in kindness and humility.

Something else, always learn and know who is truly unjust, for sometimes things in this life; are not always what they seem and I say this out of great respect towards the Iranian people, with the idea of giving help towards your knowledge.
